I’m dropping a new post to recommend dropping the use of the word “drop” in news articles Writer #1, 2024-03-222024-03-23 "Drop" can mean multiple things, and those things are opposites of each other. "Dropping ballots" can mean that votes were dropped into the pile to be counted or it can mean that votes are being removed. Are there any DBA’s reading this? If you were told to DROP a database would you ever think that meant to create a new database? God help us if someone tries to ask for a new database and uses the word "drop". When writing news articles, no one should ever use the word "drop" (in this context) as it will confuse readers. Maybe some understand the intent but it is not a clear way to write and any reader would be justified to interpret it either way. Opinion
