Telegram is awful for content Writer #1, 2023-09-14 How the heck did Telegram become the cool way to broadcast info? We have so many solutions to nicely format and organize large amounts of complex data, and along comes this under engineered and overly glorified text messaging app called “Telegram” that offers nothing except a chronological list of barely formatted writing, and everyone treats it like something amazing. I know how it happened. Censorship. That’s how. This is an example of why big “government” wrecks progress. Facebook, Twitter (pre-Musk), and all the other censored places online, censored by the “government” through backdoors to those businesses, has made it so people cannot express themselves. So, rather than an app improving over time, we’ve backtracked to a basic app because they don’t censor. Or maybe they do, but it’s minimal. So, everyone is into Telegram, not because of anything great they’ve done, but because they let you speak your mind. It does have some benefits, such as allowing you to upload large files and share them. It also offers “secret chats”. According to their FAQ: Secret chats are meant for people who want more secrecy than the average fella. All messages in secret chats use end-to-end encryption. This means only you and the recipient can read those messages — nobody else can decipher them, including us here at Telegram (more on this here). On top of this, Messages cannot be forwarded from secret chats. And when you delete messages on your side of the conversation, the app on the other side of the secret chat will be ordered to delete them as well. https://telegram.org/faq So, there’s nothing wrong with Telegram, per se, but it’s being abused by using it to post news to the masses. There are much better tools for that. Of course, I will keep my account and continue getting info from it while it’s useful. This is not an ethical or moral stance against them, by any means. I’m simply pointing out that it’s strange to use this app like it is being used. Opinion Technology Telegram
