Applies to: Gnome (I’m on Fedora but Gnome is Gnome so this probably works on anything running Gnome.)
While everyone knows you can use the command line to run sudo
commands, did you know you can also gain sudo
access in a Nautilus Files window? Sometimes that can be handy. I’ll share how to set up a quick shortcut for that.
Hit your super
key and search for keyboard
.

Go to View and Customize Shortcuts
.

Choose Custom Shortcuts

Click the +
to add a new shortcut and make it like this:

Name: nautilus sudo
Command: nautilus admin:/
Shortcut: Shift
+ Super
+ E
Now, when you press that key-combo, you’ll see an authentication window for your sudo
account, and then the new window will open in the root
directory.
