Contrast: Library vs. Internet

You’ve gotta love the irony… A government creates libraries to give out materials that are copyright protected and makes an income from it by fining the patrons for late returns.  There are no royalties paid to the authors, directors, musicians, or publishers.  A library is just a distribution point where anyone can go to get things without paying for them.

The internet takes those same materials and allows downloads so that anyone can read, view, or listen to the same material for free, and the government says it’s a violation of copyright laws because the authors are not being paid for their works.

The two scenarios are so similar that you almost wonder how they can get away with calling one a crime and the other a public service.  It looks like I caught the government not making sense.  Imagine that.
