Here are some abuses of our language that need to stop now.
Error: My car is so dirty it needs washed.
Correction: My car is so dirty it needs to be washed.
Error: Let\’s split this between the four of us.
Correction: Let\’s divide this amongst the four of us.
Between is for 2 things. Amongst is for 3 or more.
Error: Sentences are fine irregardless of how you word them.
Correction: Sentences are fine regardless of how you word them.
Regard means to pay attention to. Regardless is to not pay attention to. Irregardless is the same as regard. Over-negating words doesn\’t make them more powerful. It reverses the meaning.
